Writers are Weird 2

Rectifier will have a side character dealing with deformities, including a lack of teeth. I want to portray it well. A lot of people have to live with deformities of varying natures, and I want to be sensitive to that.

Thomas Harris, in Hannibal, put some effort into that, but as a reader I had a hard time picturing it in my head. Words like plosives and sibilants weren’t words I knew at the time, so telling me a character had problems with those wasn’t as helpful.

Now, here I am googling and reading about the biomechanics of speech….
